Don't put your health on hold

We're passionate about ensuring people don't put their health on hold.

As we ease restrictions even further, social distancing is critical, but a visit to the Doctor must remain an essential part of our everyday lives.

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) are urging people to continue visiting their Doctor for usual care. The AMA has revealed their concern that some Australians are putting off seeing their Doctor or getting a test, investigation, or immunisation due to fears of contracting COVID-19.

Owner and Principal Doctor at Sonder Private Clinic, Dr Deanne Hummelstad, comments that people should not put off seeing their Doctor, either in person or via telehealth. "Taking care of your health is not something that can be delayed or put on hold", says Dr Hummelstad.

As our world starts to get back to normal (at least in Queensland), and governments ease restrictions, we are all still conscious of social distancing and keeping a safe distance from one another. However, we all have other health concerns, and sooner or later, we need to visit our doctors. The lockdown and social distancing measures put us in isolation for the past few months, which has led to a spike of various health concerns. In particular, metabolic implications and risks, such as weight loss, weight gain, as well as fatigue and tiredness, not to mention the emotional disturbances and mental health risks associated with quarantine and self-isolation.

AMA President, Dr Tony Bartone said that, fear of COVID-19 shouldn’t make people ignore their regular health maintenance. “Fear is understandable, but for some people it could mean that a medical condition like cancer or heart disease will go undetected,” he added. Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still in our community. In fact, experts warn that it could become an endemic disease. While we leave it to the experts to come up with the vaccine, and possibly a cure, the world needs to work out how to live with it and move forward.

With that said, we are a female only clinic that strongly supports the statement from AMA and wants to continue moving forward. Patient and community safety is our utmost priority. That’s why as a medical clinic dedicated to provide health services and face and body treatments for women, we take all necessary health precautions and follow safety guidelines set by the medical authorities and the Australian government in our clinic. We made important changes to safely manage doctor appointments, consultations, and interactions with clients. Our clinic has increased the already high level of infection control measures. The safety measures starts from screening patients prior to booking and entering the clinic. Subsequently, we also offer Telehealth Appointments (phone consultation), which are bulk billed.
